Women's Tennis Defeats Cleveland State, 6-1

MILWAUKEE - The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee women's tennis team defeated Cleveland State, 6-1, Sunday at the Moorland Park Tennis Club in New Berlin, Wis. The win was the first league win for the Panthers in nearly two and a half years, since the Panthers defeated the Vikings on Sept. 30, 2000.

The Panthers (2-6, 1-1 Horizon) got wins from Alyssa Halcomb at No. 1 singles, 6-1, 6-3, and Margie Van Lieshout at No. 2 singles, 6-7, 6-4, 10-1. At No. 4 singles, Cassie Kuranz picked up the win, 6-3, 6-1, while Erin Felber won at No. 5 singles, 6-5, 6-3. Melissa Hackett picked up her first win of the season at No. 6 singles, winning 7-6, 6-2.

Milwaukee also swept the doubles point, with Halcomb and Van Lieshout winning at No. 1, 8-6. At No. 2, Kuranz and Molly Caulk also won 8-6, while Felber and Hackett won at No. 3 doubles, 8-4.

The Panthers will look to start a winning streak on Mar. 22, when they travel to DeKalb, Ill., to face Northern Illinois. Match time is 1 p.m.
