Nov. 13, 2003

Box Score

MILWAUKEE - Dylan Page scored 27 points and grabbed 11 rebounds while Ed McCants added 25 points as the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee claimed an easy 103-78 win over Northwest Sports Thursday night at the Klotsche Center.

The Panthers led by 19 at halftime and then led by as many as 42 points in the second half en route to the win over its exhibition opponent, which had lost by just seven to Arkansas and by just 10 to MAC favorite Akron.

Chris Hill contributed a double-double of 12 points and 10 assists and Joah Tucker pitched-in with 10 points as UWM won for the second time in the pre-season.

Eric Franson scored 21 points and Josh Hall added 19 for Northwest Sports, which finishes its tour Saturday at West Virginia.

UWM was never seriously threatened in the contest, shooting 65 percent in the first half while racking up 80 points by the 13:33 of the second half. Fifteen players appeared for the Panthers, with no one playing more than 25 minutes.

"Our style of play is hard on some of these teams," UWM head coach Bruce Pearl said. "I would have preferred a better test. You want to be exposed before November 22. I would really like to have been challenged more."

The Panthers continuously got easy baskets, scoring 34 points in the paint in the first half alone. UWM's lead grew to double figures for good at 39-28 with 6:46 remaining in the first stanza and the Panthers proceeded to outscore Northwest Sports 51-18 over the next 13 minutes to put the game well out of reach.

McCants, a transfer from Paris Junior College, knocked down 6-of-8 three-point shots in leading the Panthers from the perimeter. Inside, Nate Mielke added eight points and seven rebounds off-the-bench as UWM claimed a 49-31 edge on the backboards.

UWM now turns its attention to the regular season, which opens Nov. 22 at the U.S. Cellular Arena against Montana
