MILWAUKEE-The UWM women's soccer team (6-2, 2-0 Horizon) captured their sixth straight win by romping Arkansas (2-6), 5-0, Sunday afternoon at Engelmann Field.

"I definitely like the fact that we're converting on our chances," UWM coach Michael Moynihan said. "The last couple of games have been very opportunistic. The play was pretty even today, but we scored some great goals."

Senior Erin Blaedow scored the winning goal in just the third minute of the game, driving in a free kick from 20 yards out. She scored again in the 27th minute, finishing off a corner kick taken by senior Julie Ruma to give UWM the 2-0 lead into halftime.

Senior Kristine Coburn scored in the 59th minute when she ran on to a loose ball and finished into the open net from four yards out. UWM then took the 4-0 lead when freshman Amber Jelinek converted a penalty kick after being taken down in the box in the 86th minute. Senior Rana Thompson capped off UWM's scoring with a goal just three minutes later off an assist from freshman Nicole Motl. Motl sent a ball over the Ladybacks' defense to Thompson, who ran on and shot over the goalkeeper to connect inside the far post.

"They actually play with three defenders in the back and attack a lot," Moynihan said. "Just like in the last game (against Illinois State), we were able to absorb it and then counterattack. We've been very effective doing just that."

The game was played fairly even as UWM slightly outshot Arkansas, 12-11. Both teams had seven shots on goal, with Milwaukee's goalkeepers recording seven saves and Arkansas goalkeeper Megan Bals tallying two. UWM sophomore goalkeeper Kerri St. Aubin recorded four saves, while junior Mary Duffy substituted in the second half and recorded three saves.

"When you have a winning streak like this, it shows our consistency," Moynihan said of his team's six consecutive wins. "That's not something easy to do, but it says a lot about our leadership and the fact that we played hard all the way to the end."

Milwaukee next plays host IUPU-Fort Wayne on Friday afternoon at 1 p.m. The Panthers continue to play at Engelmann Field, hosting Youngstown State for a league match on Sunday at 1 p.m.
