UWM Downs Marquette In Four Games

Sept. 25, 2001

Box Score

MILWAUKEE - Senior Laura Dallenbach collected 21 kills as UWM won the final three games of the match to beat Marquette 27-30, 30-18, 30-20, 30-20 Tuesday night at the Klotsche Center.

The win is UWM's fifth straight over the Golden Eagles and the Panthers' 47th win in their last 49 home matches.

Chrissy Schurla added 14 kills and Tari Boutin pitched in with 13 for the Panthers (5-5). UWM hit .259 for the match while limiting the Golden Eagles to a .165 hitting percentage.

After dropping the first game, UWM dominated the final three games. In game two, the Panthers built leads of 17-10, 20-12, 23-13 and 25-14 in cruising to the win. The Panthers closed the game with four straight points, including kills by Carly Allison and Sarah Potts and a service ace by Potts - UWM's fifth ace of the game and one of 12 in the match.

"Our serving really picked up in the second game," UWM head coach Kathy Litzau said. "We had a little trouble with their middle in the first game, but as our serve picked up, they had a hard time setting the ball to the middle."

In game three, UWM built a 10-5 advantage and Marquette was never closer than four points the rest of the way. Dallenbach had 10 kills in the third game alone and hit .375 for the match.

"She was really finding their holes," Litzau said. "She had quite a few blind kills. It was successful, so she just kept doing it. She had all of her shots tonight."

The Panthers also slowly pulled away in game four, turning a 9-7 lead into an 18-11 advantage. Marquette pulled back to within four points on two occassions, but UWM closed the match by scoring nine of the final 12 points - the final point coming on a Lindsey Spoden service ace.

UWM returns to action Friday night, welcoming Wright St. to the Klotsche Center at 7 p.m. Butler visits Milwaukee Saturday at 4 p.m.
