MILWAUKEE -UWM (1-0) flooded DePaul (0-1) with four goals in the first half of its season opener to win, 4-1, Saturday night at Engelmann Field.

"It's a great way to start the season," UWM coach Louis Bennett said. "Obviously scoring four goals in one half and finishing as the 4-1 victors is a substantial building block for the team's confidence. As a team, we played very well overall."

Milwaukee's first goal came just three minutes into the game when freshman midfielder Antou Jallow scored an unassisted goal from 13 yards out. Jallow's goal was quickly followed by another UWM goal when senior forward Ryan Seymour scored at the 9:49 mark off an assist from sophomore forward Kyle Lance. Lance curled a long ball around the back of DePaul's defense, allowing Seymour to outrace the defense and tuck away a one-on-one with goalkeeper Jeff Klitzke.

The Panthers took the 3-0 lead when sophomore forward Tighe Dombrowski scored in the 17th minute off a long ball into the middle from sophomore J.J. Klein. Dombrowski charged the 50-50 ball against Klitzke and flicked it over him to reach the back of the net.

Dombrowski continued Milwaukee's momentum again when he assisted on Lance's goal less than a minute later. After Dombrowski sent a through ball to split DePaul's defense, Lance cut in towards goal and curled a shot far post to lead UWM, 4-0, in the first half.

Forward Chris Greer put the Blue Demons on the board in the second half when he finished past UWM goalkeeper Brad Swenby in the 60th minute.

"Looking at the game's statistics, the second half was not aesthetically pleasing," Bennett said. "But it would be counterproductive to focus on giving up a goal in the second half rather than looking at all the chances we still created in the second half."

Milwaukee returns to Engelmann Field on Wed., Sept. 5th, against Northwestern at 5 p.m.
