MILWAUKEE -
Troy Parton allowed just six hits and Butler scored three unearned runs in the top of the seventh inning to down UWM, 4-1, Sunday afternoon in the regular season finale for both teams.
Despite the loss, the Panthers (35-16, 16-4 MCC), which won the MCC regular season championship yesterday, will be the top seed in the MCC Tournament. The tournament begins Thursday morning in Chicago, and UWM will face sixth-seeded Detroit at 11 a.m.
Sunday, UWM scored its lone run in the first inning as Parton (5-3) walked the first three batters and Eric Goerdt grounded into a double play, scoring Matt Houk. The Panthers advanced only one other runner as far as third base the rest of the game.
The Bulldogs (24-28, 8-12 MCC) tied the game with a single run in the sixth on a steal of home, then scored three times in the seventh. A two-out Panther error scored the go-ahead run and kept the inning alive, and Jeff Steele capped the scoring with a two-run single.
Quintin Oldenburg (9-3) went the distance on the mound for the Panthers, who finish the regular season with school records for victories (35), MCC victories (16), runs (479), RBI (431), and hits (478).
Scott Gillitzer and Steve Guden had two hits apiece for UWM, which lost for the first time in 13 home games this season.
