MILWAUKEE - Eric Goerdt hit two home runs and UWM scored nine times in the first two innings en route to a 17-3 win over Butler Friday night, giving the Panthers a share of the Midwestern Collegiate Conference regular season title.

After Jeremy Sinsabaugh hit a solo home run in the top of the first inning, the Panthers (33-15, 14-3 MCC) scored five times in the bottom of the first. Goerdt hit a three-run homer, while John VandenBerg added a solo shot and Jason Crawford pitched in with an RBI double. In the second, Goerdt hit a two-run homer, Dave Pudlosky doubled in a run, and Derek Daggett singled home another.

UWM also scored in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings, and capped the scoring with two runs in the eighth on a Scott Gillitzer homer. The hit was Gillitzer's 80th of the season, setting a new single-season school record.

Mike Oiler (8-5) moved to 5-0 in the MCC with his fifth complete game of the season and third straight complete game in league play. Pat Neshek (4-7), who leads the MCC in strikeouts and entered the game third in the league in ERA, allowed nine runs in 1 2/3 innings to absorb the loss.

Goerdt, Daggett, and Darin Haugom had four hits apiece for UWM, which set a new school record for runs in a season at 478. UWM is now hitting .362 as a team, tying it with Bowling Green for the top spot in the nation.

With the win, the Panthers also tied school records for wins (33) and conference wins (14). UWM is also 10-0 at Henry Aaron Field.

UWM will look to claim their first-ever, outright regular season MCC title during a doubleheader with the Bulldogs (23-26, 7-10 MCC) tomorrow. The first pitch is set for noon.
