MILWAUKEE -
Creighton built an early four-run advantage, then held off a UWM rally to beat the Panthers 4-3 Friday afternoon.
The Panthers (13-10) put the tying run on second base with no outs in the top of the ninth inning, but reliever Steve Grasley forced a ground ball to third and recorded two strikeouts to save the game for the Blue Jays (14-17).
UWM had cut into a 4-0 Creighton lead with two runs in the seventh on a Steve Guden two-run single. The Panthers scored once in the ninth on a Dave Pudlosky double before Pudlosky was stranded on second.
UWM starter Eric Goerdt was knocked out of the game in the first inning after being hit in the shoulder with a line drive. Aaron Bushong (1-1) gave up just four runs in 6 2/3 innings, but took the loss.
The win was the 13th straight by the Blue Jays over the Panthers.
The two teams play a doubleheader Saturday. The first game begins at noon.
