Big Third Inning Sends Longhorns Past UWM

March 4, 2001

AUSTIN, Texas - The University of Texas scored unearned six runs in the third inning to defeat UWM, 10-4, Sunday afternoon.

The Panthers (0-2) had jumped out to a 3-0 advantage in the first inning, but the Longhorns (11-8) bounced back with two runs in the second before their third-inning outburst put the game away.

UWM starter Rob Erickson was knocked out of the game in the third after allowing three walks and hitting four batters. A key two-out, bases-loaded error allowed the Longhorns to score their six unanswered runs in the third.

Jason Crawford led the Panther offense with three hits, while Matt Houk, Darin Haugom, and Scott Gillitzer had two hits apiece.

The Panthers and Longhorns will complete their three-game series Monday afternoon at 2 p.m.
