MILWAUKEE-The Milwaukee men's soccer team beat Wisconsin, 3-1, in a front of a spirited 1,035 fans Friday afternoon at Engelmann Field. The Panthers (9-2, 1-0 Horizon) outshot the Badgers (6-3-1), 20-10, including 13 shots on goal.

"We had a fantastic game," UWM coach Louis Bennett said. "We stuck to the game plan. We had six quality shots and scored on three of them."

Senior forward Ryan Seymour scored the Panthers' first goal unassisted in the 37th minute. Seymour stole the ball from Wisconsin's defense for a breakaway and tucked a shot from 15 yards out past goalkeeper Moriba Atiba Baker.

Two minutes later, forward Kyle Lance connected on an assist from defender Evan Richardson. Richardson drove a cross to the far post and Lance finished it one-time past Baker from eight yards out, giving UWM the 2-0 lead.

"I thought the energy from Milwaukee was really high," Wisconsin coach Kalekeni Banda said. "It set the tempo their way and we never got into a rhythm. We got into making mistakes and they capitalized on them the whole game. I told our players that we're a good team, but we're not that good that we can afford to make those mistakes."

"We play a fast-tempo style of game and we're extremely fit," Bennett said. "After that honeymoon period of the first 20 minutes when the tempo should die, it doesn't because our guys can play--we're that fit. And the 1000 fans that came out for a 3 p.m. game really helped set the tempo."

Wisconsin came back a minute and a half after UWM's second goal when forward Dominic DaPra scored off a cross from Nick Van Sicklen in the 41st minute. DaPra finished from six yards out to the near post and cut UWM's lead to one goal at halftime.

Forward Bobby Lish scored his first goal of the season when he connected off a double-assist from Lance and Seymour in the 55th minute to give UWM the 3-1 lead. The play started when Tighe Dombrowski played a ball over the Badger defense for Lance to run on to. Lance sent a low ball across the goal mouth and Seymour flicked it behind, allowing Lish to finish on the far post from six yards out.

Baker finished with 10 saves on the match, while Milwaukee goakeeper Brad Swenby recorded five saves in his fourth start of the season.

UWM received a slight blow when Richardson went down with an ankle injury right before halftime. The Panthers' defense lost a second player to an ankle injury when Chad Dombrowski got hurt in the middle of the second half. Both injuries were reported as severe sprains, and both players will probably miss next week's action.

Winning their past three games, the Panthers are on the road next week with league-rivals Green Bay on Tuesday night and Loyola on Friday.
