MILWAUKEE -
Carly Allison and Laura Dallenbach collected 13 kills apiece as UWM rolled to its eighth-striaght win, 30-25, 20-24, 30-16, over UIC Saturday afternoon at the Klotsche Center.
Robin Alt added 11 kills for the Panthers (12-5, 8-1 Horizon), who won for the 52nd time in their last 54 home matches. Lindsey Filkins led UIC (10-11, 3-6 Horizon) with 14 kills.
UWM dominated the match offensively, hitting .353 to .220 for UIC, less than a day after their exhausting five-game win over Loyola.
"I felt like our entire energy level was quite different from last night, but we did what we needed to do to win," head coach Kathy Litzau said.
UWM overcame a slow start in game one, rebounding from a 7-2 deficit to eventually claim a 17-16 edge. The Panthers extended their lead to 23-18 and UIC would get no closer than three points the rest of the way. Alt closed out the game with a kill.
The Panthers led throughout game two, claiming advantages of 5-1, 11-5 and 15-6. UIC rallied to pull within 23-21, but the Panthers closed the game by scoring seven of the final 10 points, including two kills from Sarah Potts.
The outcome of game three was never really in doubt. UWM turned a 9-8 advantage into a 27-14 lead on a run that included three kills by Dallenbach and two kills by Schurla. Kills by Dallenbach and Allison closed out the match for the Panthers.
The UWM attack was again extremely balanced, with three players recording double-figure kill totals and three others recording at least five kills. Litzau credits setter Lindsey Spoden, who tallied 44 assists to go along with six kills of her own, for doing a strong job directing the attack.
"Lindsey really has been getting better and better," Litzau said. "She goes after it when it comes to finding different hitters. A lot of times she'll choose the more difficult pass rather than the easy one and that puts our hitters at a tremendous advantage."
UWM returns to the road next weekend, visiting Butler Friday night and Wright St. Saturday afternoon.
