Box Score Franklin Scores Early To Help Panthers Over Detroit

DETROIT--Evann Franklin scored a goal and tallied an assist in UWM's 2-0 win over Detroit Friday afternoon at an off-campus field in Michigan. The Panthers (11-3) recorded their fourth shutout-win in league play and stand on top of the Horizon League undefeated.

"It was a very typical game (of Detroit)," UWM coach Michael Moynihan said. "It was hard to get into a rhythm because it was so physical. It wasn't an attractive game, but I thought we did a good job organizing. It was a good win."

Franklin's game-winner came six minutes into the match off an assist from Julie Ruma. Ruma sent a through ball that led Franklin to beat Detroit goalkeeper Dube Alisson with a shot from the top of the penalty box, giving UWM the 1-0 lead.

The sophomore forward then set up UWM's other goal in the 89th minute scored by Katie Kubacki. The play began when Franklin beat her defender on the endline and cut back in towards goal. She committed Alison off the line and played it back to an open Kubacki, who tapped it in from four yards out.

UWM goalkeeper Kerri St. Aubin recorded three saves in the game as the Panthers outshot the Titans, 9-7. St. Aubin tallied her second shutout and now has a .75 GAA on the season. Alison ended the game with five saves.

"The last game we played (against Northwestern) was very physical, so I thought it prepared us well for this game," Moynihan said. "I thought we handled it well today."

Milwaukee continues league play on the road, traveling to Indianapolis for Sunday's noon game against Butler.
