DETROIT, Mich. - Rashad Phillips made a three-point basket from beyond the top of the key with 4.6 seconds remaining to lead Detroit to a come-from-behind 54-51 win Thursday night.

The Panthers had a chance to tie the game in the final seconds, but a Ronnie Jones three-point try rimmed off at the buzzer.

UWM led by as many as 10 in the second half, the final double-digit advantage coming at 45-35 on a Jason Frederick lay-in with 11:28 remaining. But, Detroit fought back to tie the game at 51-51 on a Phillips driving lay-in with 1:39 remaining.

UWM did not score in the final 4:04 of the game after a single Jones free throw made it 51-45. The Panthers' final field goal came on a Chad Angeli jumper with 8:16 to play.

"We played a great game other than the last 10 possessions," Panther coach Bo Ryan said. "Some upperclassmen for them really delivered, especially Phillips there at the end. When it got to crunch time, we didn't seem to have an answer for them on the offensive end."

The Panthers went into the locker room up 31-28 following a Ronnie Jones three-point basket at the buzzer. UWM led by as many as nine in the first half, leading 27-18 following a Clay Tucker three-point basket with 4:22 to play in the half. The Titans then scored nine straight before the Jones three.

UWM returns to action Saturday night, visiting Cleveland State. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m. CST. The game can be heard via the internet at uwmpanthers.com, while the radio broadcast will be joined in progress at 7 p.m. CST.
