UMW Volleyball Falls At Loyola

Sept. 29, 2000

CHICAGO - A tough night offensively was too much for the UWM women's volleyball team to overcome, as Loyola Chicago rolled past the Panthers, 15-13, 15-5, 15-7, Friday night.

The Panthers nearly pulled out game one despite a .091 hitting percentage, then struggled through games two and three. UWM (9-3, 1-1 MCC) hit just .016 for the match, and faced deficits of 12-1 in game two, and 9-1 in game three.

"Our serve receive was very erratic," said head coach Kathy Litzau. "We had a hard time getting the ball to our setter, so we then had a hard time siding out."

The big bright spot offensively for the Panthers was sophomore Tari Boutin (Burnsville, Minn.). She recorded six kills, and hit .357 for the match. She was the only Panther to hit above .200 on the night. Junior Laura Dallenbach (Waterloo, Iowa/West) and junior Chrissy Schurla (Chicago, Ill./Evergreen Park) had eight kills apiece for UWM.

UWM will try to bounce back Saturday at Illinois-Chicago, which is off to a school-record 12-2 start.

Loyola Chicago is now 6-6 overall, and 2-0 in the MCC.
