MILWAUKEE - The UWM men's soccer team's return to Engelmann Field was disappointed by a strong Marquette attack, as the Golden Eagles posted a 5-1 win over the Panthers in the annual Milwaukee Cup game.
The Golden Eagles scored three goals in the game's first 14 minutes and never looked back.
"All the players, and myself, are really upset for our fans. This was a big game for us, with the return to Engelmann Field," said UWM coach Louis Bennett. The game marked the Panthers' first regular season game at Engelmann Field since the 1998 season.
"They were sharp, much better than us tonight," said Bennett. "But we can only go up from here."
The Panthers' lone goal came in the 76th minute when Mike Mielke fed Ryan Seymour, who put the ball past the Marquette keeper.
UWM plays at Northwestern on Sunday.
