Scott Gillitzer hit a two-run home run in the eighth inning as the UWM baseball team defeated Detroit, 7-3, at Henry Aaron Field on Sunday.
The win completed a four-game sweep of the Titans and gave UWM a full game lead in the MCC race with a 10-4 record. UIC is 9-5 in league games.
UWM starter Mike Oiler went seven innings, allowing six hits and two earned runs. He struck out six and walked two as he improved to 3-4 on the season.
The Panthers scored single runs in four of the first five innings to take a 4-0 lead. Detroit scored two runs in the sixth inning on a Juston Davenport home run.
But UWM put the game out of reach in the eighth inning when they scored three runs, two of them coming on Gillitzer's seventh home run of the season.
Chad Sadowski and Matt Houk each went 2-for-4 at the plate, and Eric Goerdt, who pitched the last two innings to earn his fourth save of the season, went 1-for-3 with two RBIs.
The Panthers are back in action on Tuesday when they play Minnesota-Duluth in Eau Claire.
