Milwaukee, Wis. -- The UWM baseball team improved to 11-12 on the season with a convincing sweep of Wisconsin Lutheran College at Henry Aaron Field on Wednesday night. UWM won the first game, 19-0, and the nightcap, 17-0.
In game one, UWM jumped out to an 8-0 lead and never looked back. Brett Huebner paced the offense with a 4-for-5 outing at the plate. He had a double and a triple and four runs scored. Todd Ludwig went 2-for-2 with four RBIs and Eric Goerdt went 3-for-5 with three RBIs. All Panther starters had at least one hit and at least one run. Three substitutions also had at least a hit and a run.
After eight runs in the first inning, the Panthers added three in the second, two in the fourth, five in the fifth and one in the sixth.
Five Panther pitchers limited Wisconsin Lutheran hitters to three hits. Brian Gould started the game on the mound for UWM. In three innings, he allowed one hit, an infield single off of his foot. He struck out four batters and walked none. Andy Neary pitched the fourth inning and picked up the win as he struck out two batters in a flawless inning of work. Tim Meinecke, Dave Risser and Matt Friesleben each pitched an inning in the game.
In game two, the first six Panther batters reached base safely and UWM scored nine runs in the first inning as UWM posted a 17-0 win. UWM added one run in the second, six in the fourth, one in the fifth and one in the sixth.
Mike Oiler went 4-for-4 at the plate with two doubles and a triple. His single in the first inning scored two runs and he finished with three RBIs and four runs scored. Todd Grafenauer went 4-for-5 with four RBIs.
Five Panther pitchers combined in the shutout, allowing a total on one hit. Rob Erickson pitched the first three innings, allowing one hit and striking out three. Matt Friesleben pitched a perfect fourth inning to pick up the win. J.J. Kotarak, Eric Goerdt and Dave Risser all pitched one inning in relief.
