UWM Baseball Rolls Over Wright State

April 15, 2000

MILWAUKEE - The UWM baseball team swept a doubleheader from MCC rival Wright State on Saturday by the scores of 17-2 and 5-4.

The wins improve UWM's MCC record to 4-1 and 15-14 overall.

UWM designated hitter Chad Sadowski tied the school record for hits in a career with a home run in the first game and then broke the record with a single in the second game. Sadowski now has 179 career hits. He broke the school's career RBI record on Tuesday.

Scott Gillitzer had a big day at the plate for UWM. He went 4-for-6 with four runs and two RBIs in the two games.

In game one, Panther starter Andy Neary was the beneficiary of a 14-run fifth inning. Neary pitched a complete-game victory, allowing two runs and eight hits. He struck out six and walked two as he improved to 6-2 this season.

Darin Haugom and Eric Geordt both knocked in three runs in the first game. Haugom's three RBIs came on a bases loaded triple that tied the school record for career triples (8).

In game two, the Panthers trailed the Raiders, 4-3, in the sixth inning, but Gillitzer and Todd Ludwig had back-to-back run scoring doubles in the sixth to put UWM up for good. Ludwig had two doubles and three of the team's five RBIs in the game.

Quintin Oldenburg earned the win and improved to 2-0 on the season. He pitched a third-inning of relief with a strikeout. Mike Oiler started the game and pitched five and two-thirds innings, allowing four runs and striking out nine. Eric Goerdt tallied his first save of the season by pitching a perfect ninth inning.
