Panthers Fall to Wright State

The UWM baseball team fell to 13-14 on the season after a 13-6 loss to Wright State on Friday at Henry Aaron Field.

The Panthers are now 2-1 in MCC action. Wright State is 2-3.

The Panthers got on the scoreboard first when Matt Houk knocked in Brett Huebner from second base with a single to left field in the third inning.

Wright State countered with two runs in the fourth. Chad Sadowski allowed two walks and a single to load the bases. Paul McLain came through with a two-run single, scoring Josh Hart and Doug Nichols.

The Raiders added to their lead in the next inning. Sparked by a Nichols grand slam home run, his fourth home run this season, Wright State scored five in the frame. The Raiders added an insurance run in the seventh inning and five more in the eighth to put the game out of reach.

The Panthers got a run back in the fifth, when Mike Oiler led off the inning with a triple to right center. He scored on a Huebner sacrifice fly. UWM scored a single run in the seventh when Steve Tylke doubled down the left field line and scored on Darin Haugom's single up the middle. Eric Goerdt added a solo home run in the eighth. The Panthers scored two more in the ninth inning.

UWM starter Sadowski lasted into the fifth inning. He allowed seven runs (six earned), walked three and struck out two. He fell to 4-5 on the season.

Raider starter Chris Bedford improved to 3-4 by pitching a complete game.
