Panther Baseball Loses at Samford, 20-17

Birmingham, Ala. - The UWM baseball team fell to 2-9 on the season after a disappointing 20-17 loss against Samford on Wednesday.

The Panthers entered the bottom of eighth inning with a 13-4 lead, but allowed 11 unearned runs on three errors in the final two innings.

Samford scored nine runs in the eighth inning to tie the game, 13-13. But Brett Huebner hit a three-run home run in the ninth, and Steve Tylke folllowed with a solo shot to give UWM a four-run lead, 17-13. Samford rallied for seven runs in the bottom of the frame.

Scott Gillitzer swung a hot bat for UWM, with a pair of home runs and a double. He finished 3-for-5 with four RBIs.

Corey Clemmons pitched into the sixth inning and allowed four runs (two earned). Matt Friesleben pitched two-thirds of an inning and allowed five unearned runs for the loss.
