Men's Basketball Falls Hard at Detroit

Feb. 26, 2000

DETROIT - The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee men's basketball team dropped a tough road game Saturday at Detroit Mercy, 48-88. The Panthers drop to 14-12 overall and 6-8 in the MCC while the Titans move to 18-11 overall and 8-6 in the MCC, giving them the No. 3 seed going into next weekend's conference tournament. The Panthers stand alone in the fourth place, but could be joined UW-Green Bay or Wright State depending on the outcomes of their games which tip off at 7 p.m. EST tonight. If either team ties with the Panthers at 6-8, a coin toss will determine the fourth seed.

The Panthers never trailed by less than 16 points for the rest of the game, while the Titans recorded a school-record 18 treys, shooting 56.3 percent from beyond the arc and 53.2 percent overall. The Panthers were .319 from the field and .286 from three-point range. Chad Angeli (Wausau, Wis.) led the Panthers with 14 points with Jason Frederick (Waukesha, Wis.) adding 13 off the bench. Seniors Desmond Ferguson and Rashad Phillips led the Titans with 35 and 28 points respectively in their last home outings.

The Panthers travel to Chicago next for the MCC Tournament March 4-7.
