MILWAUKEE -
The UWM women's volleyball team earned a hard-fought three-game win over MCC rival Butler Friday night, 16-14, 16-14, 15-9.
The match turned in game two, as the Panthers (11-3, 3-1 MCC) rattled off the final seven points to rally from a 14-9 deficit. Freshman Robin Alt, who had three service aces in the match, scored two of those aces for the decisive points.
"Robin Alt was the MVP of that game," coach Kathy Litzau said. "We had to keep the ball away from their middle to come back, and service aces certainly helped do that."
The Panthers also got stellar play from junior Laura Dallenbach, who led the team with 20 kills and a .364 hitting percentage. Sophomore Larissa Cattanach added 14 kills.
"Butler really pushed us," Litzau said. "I'm real happy with the win because we pushed back. Butler played great defense and put up a great block. We really had to fight."
UWM, ranked seventh in the Midwest Region, has now won 37 of its last 38 home matches. The Panthers return to action Saturday at 4 p.m. against Wright State. Butler fell to 10-6, 2-1 in the MCC.
