UWM Men?s Basketball Drops Tough Road Game to Wright State

Jan. 20, 2000

Box Score

DAYTON, Ohio - The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee fell to Wright State, 67-60, tonight in WSU?s Nutter Center.

After exchanging leads for most of the first half, the Raiders went to the locker room with a two-point lead at the break. In the second half, the Panthers were not able to take back the lead, mainly due to WSU?s Kevin Melson who scored 15 of his 24 points in the second half. The Panthers were within three points with 1:02 left in the game, but the Panthers just couldn?t get back the lead, falling to 9-7 overall and 2-2 in the MCC. Wright State earned its first conference win of the season, standing now at 6-11 overall and 1-3 in the MCC.

?Everything we wanted to happen in the last five minutes to put us in the position to win happened,? said UW-Milwaukee head coach Bo Ryan. ?We got to the line, we got good looks. (The shots) just didn?t fall.?

The Raiders shut down the shooting of MCC Player of the Week Chad Angeli (Wausau, Wis.), who was held to only six points tonight after averaging 21.5 ppg last week. All his points were scored on at the line, going 6-of-8 from the free-throw line. For the first time this season, he went 0-for-0 from the field.

?They were doubling up on him and forcing turnovers,? said Ryan. ?And he just wasn?t getting good looks. But we have other players who can score.? Freshman Clay Tucker (Lima, Ohio) led the Panthers with 18 points and a team-high five rebounds. Senior Shaun Fountain (Columbus, Ohio) added 14 points, with freshman Ronnie Jones (Las Vegas, Nev.) adding 10 points.

The Panthers travel to Indianapolis, Ind., on Saturday to face Butler in the Hinkle Fieldhouse at 2 p.m. EST. The game will be broadcast live in Milwaukee on WEMP 1250-AM, or will be available worldwide on the internet at www.uwmpanthers.com.
