Men's Soccer Falls to Marquette in OT

Sept. 16, 1999

MILWAUKEE - The UWM men's soccer team was handed its first defeat of the season when Marquette scored a goal two minutes into overtime and posted a 3-2 win.

Trailing, 2-1, UWM senior Joe Luedke scored a goal with four minutes remaining in regulation. Tony Colvin set up the play with a corner kick that Luedke converted.

"I felt going into overtime that we had the advantage of momentum," said UWM head coach Louis Bennett. "When you look at a game like this, you're obviously disappointed with the result. Especially when you play with this kind of passion, determination and focus."

The Panthers started the scoring when Scott Dombrowski headed in a cross from Blake Bostwick.

Marquette (1-4) scored the game's next two goals, one in the 44th minute and one in the 62nd minute.

The Panthers (4-1) look to rebound this weekend at the Vanderbilt tournament.
