Cross Country and Track & Field All-Americans

Milwaukee has a rich history of All-Americans from the origins of the program.
Our records prior to our jump to Division I in 1990 are incomplete. Below is the most comprehensive list of Panther All-Americans compiled, dating back to 1981.

Nate Pozolinski | 110m Hurdles | 13.70 seconds | 13th/24 - Second Team All-American
Nate Pozolinski closed out his remarkable Panther career in style, taking 13th in the nation in the 110m hurdles with a time of 13.70 seconds at historic Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore. With that finish, Pozolinski closed out his career as a Second Team All-American. That makes him a three-time All-American, joining Cory Peterson (below) as the only two Panthers to achieve that feat at the Division-I level. It was a special year for Pozolinski, who posted 12 finishes of 13.90 seconds or faster - the only person in the NCAA to consistently run that fast all season. Pozolinski also won seven of his races on the season, including taking down former Olympian Greggman Swift at the Pacesetter Invite April 22 at Indiana State. Pozolinski would later be named the winner of the prestigious Coleman Award - the Horizon League's highest individual honor - after his graduation.

Nate Pozolinski | 60m Hurdles | 8.03 seconds | 14th/16 - Second Team All-American
Nate Pozolinski kicked off his senior year right where he left off the previous spring - competing at the nation's top level. In his final indoor season as a Panther, Pozolinski finished 14th overall in the 60m hurdles at the NCAA Championships, hosted by Texas A&M. That capped and incredible season that saw the Kimberly, Wis. native breaking the school record in the event held by previous All-American Durell Busby; lowering that time to 7.74 seconds. Pozolinski was at the top of his game from start to finish, scoring in all four of his events at the league meet, including winning his third-straight indoor crown in long jump.

2016 NCAA Outdoor Championships - Eugene, Ore.

Brett Pozolinski | High Jump | 2.14m (7-0 1/4) | 10th/24 - Second Team All-American
Brett Pozolinski closed out his collegiate career in style, finishing with Second-Team All-American honors in high jump. The senior capped a remarkable season that saw him become the first Panther in Division I history to qualify for nationals during both the indoor and outdoor seasons. Pozolinski's final outdoor campaign saw him break the school record two times, establishing a new height of 2.19m (7-2 1/4) to become the first Panther to clear seven feet in high jump. The awards continued after graduation as Pozolinski was named the winner of the prestigious Coleman Award - the Horizon League's highest individual honor presented annually to the league's top male and female student-athletes that best exemplify dignity and high purpose.

Nate Pozolinski | 110m Hurdles | 14.21 seconds | 22nd/24 - Honorable Mention All-American
With a healthy sibling rivalry to help push him, junior Nate Pozolinski joined older brother Brett at the 2016 NCAA Outdoor Championships with a berth in the 110m hurdles. Nate had been progressing to this point since his first days on campus and it was evident early in the year that the well-rounded athlete was destined for the sport's biggest stage. That moment was realized midway through the year when posted a new PR time of 13.66 seconds at Louisville's Lyles/Wood Invitational, beating former USA Olympic silver medalist David Payne along the way. With both Pozolinski's earning their way to outdoor nationals, that marked the first time in program history that two Panthers competed at the same national championships.

2016 NCAA Indoor Championships - Birmingham, Ala.
18321
Brett Pozolinski | High Jump | 2.18m (7-1 3/4) | 5th/16 - First Team All-American
Brett Pozolinski kicked off his senior year by emphatically announcing his presence on the national stage. The senior, marred by a nagging injury as a junior, broke through in a big way in his final year. It all started when he won the high jump at the national Meyo Invite at Notre Dame midway through the season. One week later, he smashed the school record with a leap of 2.19m (7-2 1/4) to all but punch his ticket to nationals. He also brought home his second league title in high jump. At the national competition hosted by Samford in Birmingham, Ala., Pozolinski far exceeded his 14th-place seeding by tying for fifth overall.

2014 NCAA Outdoor Championships - Eugene, Ore.
18322
Durell Busby | 110m Hurdles | 13.70 seconds | 7th/24 - First Team All-American
After just missing a return trip to nationals as a junior, Durell Busby was on a mission during his senior campaign. The hurdle specialist found himself peaking at the right time, lowering his time by seemingly a full tenth of a second every time out late in the year. He won a league title in the 110m hurdles - his third straight - in 13.88 seconds before setting a new school record just a few days later at the Dr. Keeler Invite with a time of 13.56. He then did what he had to do at the NCAA West Regional and finished eighth overall to qualify for his second trip to the NCAA Championships. There, Busby advanced through prelims and finished seventh overall in 13.70 to become a First Team All-American.

2012 NCAA Outdoor Championships - Eugene, Ore.
18323
Durell Busby | 110m Hurdles | 13.77 seconds | 12th/24 - Second Team All-American
Heading into his sophomore season, Durell Busby had already established himself as the top hurdler in the Horizon League. As a sophomore, he proved that he was one of the tops in the entire nation. The Trinidad & Tobago native hovered right around his then-school-record time of 13.91 all season until pulling out his best performance at the NCAA West Regional in Austin, Texas. There, Busby clocked in at 13.71 seconds in prelims before punching his ticket to nationals with a time of 13.67 in finals. Then, at the NCAA Championships, Busby finished fifth in his heat and 12th overall to earn Second-Team All-American honors. Two weeks later, he just missed a berth to the 2012 London Olympics by taking fourth overall in the 110m hurdles for his home nation.

2011 NCAA Outdoor Championships - Des Moines, Iowa
18324
Samia Taylor | Triple Jump | 12.47m (40-11) | 18th/24 - Honorable Mentional All-American
After bursting on the scene as a freshman, Samia Taylor took her game to the next level during her sophomore year. Taylor was on a roll the last few weeks of the season, setting personal records in the three meets leading up to nationals. She broke the school and league record in triple jump on her way to a conference title before a dramatic performance at regionals out in Eugene, Ore. After fouls on her first two attempts, Taylor moved into third on her third approach to advance to finals where she cleared 12.91m (42-4 1/4) to take sixth overall and punch her ticket to nationals. At the NCAA Championships hosted by Drake, Taylor finished 18th overall with a leap of 12.47m (40-11).

2007 NCAA Outdoor Championships - Sacramento, Calif.
18325
Nick Gretz | Discus | 52.33m (171-8) | 22nd/26 - Honorable Mention All-American
Nick Gretz ended a nine-year drought for Milwaukee by qualifying for the NCAA Outdoor Championships in 2007. The Two Rivers, Wis. native finished fifth in discus at the NCAA Regional in Columbia, Mo. to earn an automatic berth in the event. He was ranked regionally in both discus and shot put all season long, won league titles in both events and was named Horizon League Athlete of the Week four times. Gretz capped his decorated career by taking 22nd overall in Sacramento, Calif. inside Hornet Stadium. After graduation, the honors continued as Gretz was named the Horizon League Outdoor Male Athlete of the Year.

1998 NCAA Indoor Championships - Indianapolis, Ind.

Cory Peterson | 800m | 1:49.76 | 11th/16 - All-American
They say good things come in threes. For Cory Peterson, that was quite evident during his 1998 indoor season at Milwaukee. The speedster - who overcame a variety of unique injuries, including being shot by a ricocheting bullet, stabbed and had heart surgery just before the start of the 1998 season - capped his indoor career in style. First he finished the conference season with his third-straight 800m title. Peterson then ran at the prestigious USATF Indoor Nationals, taking fourth. One week later, he made his third-straight trip to nationals where he once again earned All-American honors by taking 11th overall.

1997 NCAA Indoor Championships - Indianapolis, Ind.
18326
Cory Peterson | 800m | 1:49.59 | 6th/19 - All-American
With one year of national experience under his belt, Cory Peterson stepped his game up in 1997. With expectations at a higher level, Peterson proved up to the task. He not only repeated as the league's 800m champ but also punch his return ticket to the NCAA Indoor Championships hosted in the RCA Dome in Indianapolis. He did so by clocking the 12th-fastest 800m indoor time in the U.S. in 1997 at 1:48.86. At nationals, Peterson moved up and finished sixth in the country, marking the second-straight year being named All-American and giving Milwaukee its first points at the NCAA meet at the DI level.

1996 NCAA Outdoor Championships - Eugene, Ore.
18335
Angie Molter | 10,000m | 35:09.54 | 15th/20 - All-American
Angie Molter capped an outstanding year for Milwaukee. The distance specialist had plenty of highlights as a senior, none greater than making it all the way to the NCAA Championships hosted by Oregon at Track Town. Molter started turning heads by winning the 3,000m race at the prestigious Kansas Relays midway through the year before breaking the school record in the 10k in 34:56.71 - breaking the previous record that had stood for 15 years. She also was named the conference's outstanding running performer after winning a league title in the 3,000m. She then closed out her collegiate career at the sport's grandest stage, taking 15th in the 10,000m against the nation's best.

Cory Peterson | 800m | 1:49.77  | 9th/24 - All-American
1996 was truly a remarkable year for Cory Peterson. The extremely talented runner burst on the national scene in a hurry. Just a sophomore, Peterson started things by winning his first league title in the 800m. But that was just the beginning. Peterson broke the school record in the 800m in 1:48.06 to automatically qualified for nationals, carrying the torch lit by former Panther 800m runner Tim Kenney just one year earlier. Peterson finished ninth overall at nationals and was named All-American as one of the top-eight finishers from the United States. Later that year, Peterson also qualified for the U.S. Olympic Trials in the 800m, placing third.

1995 NCAA Cross Country Championships - Ames, Iowa
18336
Chad Zehms | Cross Country | 32:42 | 89th/177
Chad Zehms closed out his cross country career with arguably the greatest season in Milwaukee history. The senior kicked off the year by breaking the Bradley University course record in 24:54 before helping UWM to a team title at UW-Parkside, with the Green Bay native taking second overall. Zehms then was crowned league champion when Milwaukee hosted the league meet at Kletzsch Park, finishing first with a time of 25:39. The team captain then came in 17th in 31:46 at the NCAA District IV Championships hosted by Purdue to punch his ticket to nationals as an individual. Zehms closed out his career taking 89th overall out of 177 runners, finishing the 10k course in 32:42.

Tim Kenney | 800m | 10th/20 - All-American
Tim Kenney made history for the Milwaukee track & field team in 1995, becoming the first Panther to qualify for the NCAA Championships since the school moved to Division I in 1990. Kenny - a very versatile runner - did so in the 800m. The senior broke the school record with a blazing time of 1:49.87, becoming the first Panther to break the 1:50.00 barrier in program history.
