Brett Pozolinski Closes Career 10th In The Nation

Senior earns second All-American honor of the year

Eugene, Ore. – A two-time All-American: not a bad way to close out your career.

That's exactly what Brett Pozolinski did, capping his remarkable career as a member of the Milwaukee track & field team by earning Second-Team All-American honors after finishing 10th overall in high jump at the NCAA Outdoor Championships hosted by the University of Oregon at historic Hayward Field Friday night.

Pozolinski cleared his first two heights (2.09m/6-10 ¼ and 2.14m/7-0 ¼) on his first attempts before coming up just short at 2.19m/7-2 ¼, which would have tied his personal best and his own school record.

USC's Randall Cunningham – son of the former NFL quarterback with the same name – won this year's national title by clearing 2.25m (7-4 ½).

"What an awesome finish for Brett and for our team at the nation's biggest meet," Milwaukee head coach Pete Corfeld said. "This is one of the all-time best seasons for any of our athletes. This is the first time somebody has finished as an All-American indoor and outdoor, which is a big deal for anyone.

"Not only that, but to have two All-Americans at the same meet is an incredible feat for our program. Both Brett and Nate (Pozolinski) finished higher than their seeding, something our athletes have been doing at big meets not just this year, but for a long time now.

"Hats off to our assistant coaches. They did tremendous work and put in countless hours all year long. This is certainly a season we'll all remember for a long time."

Pozolinski – who finished First Team All-American in indoor high jump – graduates as the top high jumper in Panther history and one of the best in Horizon League history.

With that finish, Pozolinski established himself as the top finisher from the Horizon League at the NCAA Championships for the second time this year, with brother Nate Pozolinski taking 22nd in the 110m hurdles and Youngstown State's Conner Neu taking 13th in hammer throw.

This now marks the fifth and sixth times a Panther has earned All-American honors in the last six years, with three of those coming this season.
