Peter Baran was hired as the Associate Athletic Director for Compliance in the Milwaukee Athletic Department in May of 2022, and enters his fourth full year in that role in 2025-26.
Baran oversees NCAA and Horizon League compliance for all 15 sports, including monitoring recruiting activities for all coaches and staff, certifying eligibility for all student-athletes and educating student-athletes, coaches, staff, faculty and boosters about NCAA rules.
In his current role, Baran also serves as the sport administrator for men's soccer.

Baran comes to the Panthers following eight years as the Assistant Athletic Director of Compliance at Villanova University. While with the Wildcats, Baran was responsible for assisting in the oversight of the athletic compliance program for 24 varsity sports and for supervision of all processes and procedures related to NCAA rules and regulations.

Baran also served as the main compliance contact for the football, men’s lacrosse, men’s golf, tennis, and track & field programs.

Prior to Villanova, he was the Assistant Director of Compliance at Howard University in Washington, D.C. He began his career as the Compliance Coordinator at Marquette University, where he previously served as the Compliance Intern.
Baran received his Juris Doctorate from Marquette University Law School in 2011 and is a recipient of the National Sports Law Institute sports law certificate. Baran is also a 2006 graduate of Villanova University, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in Philosophy.
