Sean Engel joined the Milwaukee Athletics staff as Director of Athletic Communications beginning his post in mid-January of 2023. He enters his third full season with the department in 2025-26.
At Milwaukee, Engel will oversee the communication efforts of the volleyball, women's basketball, and serve as the primary contact for the Panther baseball program. He previously oversaw the track & field and cross country programs during the spring 2023 semester. During the summer of 2024, Engel spearheaded efforts on the redesign of MKEPanthers.com, which launched in August of 2024.
Engel comes to Milwaukee from nearby Alverno College, where he spent the past four-plus years as its Sports Information Director. In December of 2022, Engel was elevated to Associate Athletic Director with sport oversight of the cross country, golf, tennis, and track & field programs, prior to that Engel had held an Assistant Athletic Director title when initially hired in August of 2018.
While at Alverno, Engel oversaw NCAA and conference compliance, daily operations, external rentals, facility scheduling, fitness center oversight, gameday operations, and student employees among countless other responsibilities. All while helping the continuous growth and development of the program’s sports information and publication efforts.
Engel arrived at Alverno following a five-year stay at Maritime College in Throggs Neck, New York, where he served as the department’s Sports Information Director beginning in October of 2014, following a 14-month stint as Assistant Sports Information Director. While at Maritime, Engel was in charge of promoting the department’s 16 varsity athletic programs. He oversaw two website redesigns with the most recent coming in May of 2018. In addition, Engel spearheaded the effort to increase the department’s web-streaming service from two teams to seven.
Engel was also vital in Maritime’s social media efforts, increasing its presence on social media exponentially while also introducing the department’s Instagram account. He was also in charge of the department’s game day operations and student employee force, while also generating previously nonexistent record books and biographies for student-athletes and staff.
Before his stop at Maritime, Engel was the Assistant Sports Information Director at Manhattanville College in Purchase, N.Y., where he was responsible for six of the department’s athletic programs. While there he also earned his Master of Science in Sport Business Management. A stay at Long Island University’s C.W. Post campus preceded the stop at Manhattanville, where Engel was an intern in the sports information office in 2010-11.
Engel graduated magna cum laude from Oneonta State College in May of 2010 with a degree in Mass Communications. While at Oneonta he was an intern in the college’s sports information office.
He resides in Wisconsin with his wife, Jordan.
