Dan Carey begins his fourth season on the staff of the Milwaukee women's basketball team. The 2016-17 season marks his second as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator after spending his first two as the video coordinator.

"Dan worked incredibly hard as our video coordinator and definitely deserves the opportunity to move up to an assistant coach position," head coach Kyle Rechlicz said. "His passion for the game and for making UWM a special place to play is contagious. Recruiting is the lifeblood to our program and I know Dan will continue to outwork people for the types of players we need to be successful."

He was elevated to the assistant role in September of 2015.

"I am so grateful for this opportunity and couldn't be more excited to stay on Coach Rechlicz's staff in this new role," Carey said. "The future is so bright for this program and I couldn't be happier to be here. I look forward to bringing energy, enthusiasm and passion to every aspect of this job."

As video coordinator, Carey was in charge of all film exchange, editing and game breakdown for scouting and highlight video purposes. He also assisted with the administrative side of the program.

Carey was most recently the head coach of the varsity program at Hamilton High School, developing the girls' team into one of the top programs in the state in his four years. Carey led the Chargers to a pair of Greater Metro Conference championships, the first time in program history Hamilton had won a league title.

Carey went 68-27 in four years at Hamilton, recording a 38-9 record his last two seasons which included a 25-3 mark in league play in that span. His first season at the school produced the program's first winning record since 1991.

Prior to that, his coaching career includes stints with Milwaukee Pius High School as a varsity assistant and junior varsity head coach, and with Holmen High School as the junior varsity assistant coach. He was also a health and fitness educator at Templeton Middle School in Sussex.
