Pat Monaghan enters year number two on the bench after he joined the staff of the Milwaukee men’s basketball team as an assistant coach prior to the 2017-18 season.
Monaghan joined Baldwin at MKE following six seasons at Minnesota State University. In addition to being an assistant coach, Monaghan was also the recruiting coordinator for the Mavericks.
“I am very fortunate to have Pat join our Panther family,” head coach Pat Baldwin said at the time. “Pat is an extremely hard-working and loyal coach who dedicates himself to basketball. I have seen his work ethic firsthand and know he will give everything he has to the Panther program. Pat will attack recruiting and work to put us in prime position with student-athletes at all levels.”
While working under six-time league coach of the year Matt Margenthaler, Monaghan helped the Mavericks - one of the top NCAA Division II programs in the nation – to NCAA Tournament appearances four times and also to a pair of Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference titles. He has also helped guide over a dozen players to All-NSIC honors in his tenure.
The team tied the school record with 28 wins in 2012-13 and topped that with a 30-5 mark in 2013-14. The Mavs won 20 or more games each of his final five campaigns.
A native of Chicago, Ill., Monaghan came to Minnesota State from Loyola University Chicago where he served as the team’s Director of Basketball Operations in his first stint with Baldwin.
Prior to his time in Chicago, Monaghan was an assistant coach at Coffeyville Community College in Coffeyville, Kan., for two seasons. While at Coffeyville, he helped guide the Ravens to a 24-8 record in 2008-09, including a Jayhawk East Conference Championship.
He also spent two seasons as a graduate assistant coach at Wayne State College (Neb.).
Monaghan began his playing career in 2002 at Harper Community College before transferring to Lewis University where he played for the Flyers from 2004-06.
