Former Milwaukee standout Chris Hill is in his first season as an assistant coach for the Panthers program after spending the 2014-15 campaign as the director of basketball operations. Hill spent the previous two seasons as the video coordinator on Rob Jeter’s staff after serving as the team’s academic advisor in 2011-12.

Hill returned to his alma mater after working as a graduate assistant at the University of Tennessee following a successful professional basketball career overseas.

Last season, Milwaukee finished the season with a flourish, winning seven of its final nine contests, and saw two of its players – Steve McWhorter and Matt Tiby – recognized as Second Team All-Horizon League honorees. The Panthers also nearly set a school record with a .737 free throw percentage, the second-best mark in the NCAA Division I history of the program.

In 2013-14, Hill helped Milwaukee to a 21-win season and a berth in the NCAA Tournament. UWM’s 13-game improvement in the win column was the best in the nation that season.

The Chicago native played in 116 games during his Panther career, which spanned from 2001-06. He made 71 career starts at point guard and totaled 754 points (6.5 ppg) to go with 304 assists (2.6 apg) and 291 rebounds (2.5 rpg).

During Milwaukee’s NCAA Sweet 16 season in 2004-05, Hill started 24 contests and averaged career bests of 7.8 points, 3.0 rebounds and 3.2 assists per game, while shooting 37.5 percent (30-for-80) from three-point range. The following year, while playing for Rob Jeter, Hill started all 31 games and helped the Panthers advance to the second round of the NCAA Tournament by contributing 7.7 ppg, 2.8 rpg and 2.8 apg.

With Hill on the roster, including his redshirt year, Milwaukee won three Horizon League regular-season titles, three Horizon League Tournament crowns and played in three NCAA Tournaments. In all, the Panthers won 108 games, including three contests in the NCAA Tournament.
