Volleyball Concludes Weekend With Loss at Marquette

MILWAUKEE – Milwaukee volleyball dropped a non-conference road match at Marquette in straight sets on Sunday afternoon at the Al McGuire Center.

The Golden Eagles put together a strong effort on both sides of the ball, recording 42 kills against just nine errors for a .363 hitting percentage. Defensively, Marquette added a season-high 14.5 blocks while holding the Panthers to a season-low .065 hitting percentage.

Carson Tyler had a match-high 12 kills for Marquette, while Tani Juric had nine kills and hit .533. Luanna Markus dished out 33 assists, while Tyler and Emi Juric each recorded two aces apiece. Molly Welge tallied a match-high 10 blocks.

"Today Marquette was pretty flawless," said head coach Susie Johnson. "They played a clean match, and we had a hard time finding any kind of rhythm against them. We couldn't generate the consistency we needed, and they took advantage of that."

Annie Eschenbach had nine kills to lead the Panthers, while Ella Parker and Josie Noble each recorded six. Milica Tomic had 18 assists with six digs while recording the first block of her career, while Kati Goba had a Milwaukee-best 10 digs.

Kayla Landerud had a team-best three blocks, while Hope Wagner also got on the scoresheet in her first career match with a block.

Marquette won the three sets by 25-15, 25-11, and 25-13 scores to take the match.

"We have to find our competitive edge by Tuesday when we play at Iowa," Johnson added. "We need to reset quickly and be ready for another tough challenge."

Milwaukee will close non-league play on Tuesday at Iowa, with first serve set for 6:00 p.m., before heading to Northern Kentucky to begin Horizon League play on Friday evening.
