MILWAUKEE – Nate Malosa of Raleigh, N.C., is set to transfer into the program and play for the Milwaukee men's basketball team next season, with the signing officially announced by head coach
Bart Lundy today.
Malosa, a 6-foot, 10-inch 235-pound stretch forward, comes to the Panthers from Columbia State Community College in Columbia, Tenn., where he was the leading shot blocker in the National Junior College Athletic Association this past season. He was also named the Tennessee Community College Athletic Association Defensive Player of the Year and First-Team TCCAA All-Conference for his efforts.
"We are excited to welcome Nate to the program," Lundy said. "Nate is an inside-out big that is just now scratching the surface on his potential. He is an elite shot-blocker, but can also stretch the floor and shoot the three offensively. His versatility and his size will be an immediate impact on our program. We expect big things of Nate immediately and it will be exciting to watch him grow before our eyes."
Malosa started 30 of the 33 games he appeared in this season as a true freshman, averaging 9.1 points and a league-leading 8.5 rebounds per game. He led the NJCAA with his 102 total blocks (3.1 bpg). Malosa shot 53.7 percent from the floor overall, adding 44.1 percent from three-point range.
He blocked five-plus shots in nine different contests, highlighted by a season-best seven rejections on three different occasions – including back-to-back outings in mid-February.
He also posted 17 games of 10-or-more rebounds, with a high of 13 on two occasions. He recorded double-doubles in nine contests, scoring a season-high of 16 points against Walters State in March, part of a stretch that saw him earn TCCAA All-Tournament accolades.
He attended high school in North Carolina at Quality Education Academy and Bull City Prep Academy, where he averaged 16 points, 13 rebounds, and 4.0 blocks per contests as one of the top shot blockers in the state. He led QEA to a 20-10 overall record and first place in the league at 9-3.
