MILWAUKEE – Danilo Jovanovich of the Milwaukee men's basketball team has officially announced his intentions to play his final season of college basketball for the Panthers next year.
Jovanovich enjoyed a breakout season this past winter, setting career-highs across the board before his campaign was cut short due to injury.
"We are thrilled to announce that
Danilo Jovanovich will be returning for the Panthers for his final year," head coach
Bart Lundy said. "D-Lo is one of my favorite players that I've ever coached in my career. His ability on the court and his personality off the court make not only our team, but our program and university and city better. I believe he will have an amazing senior year. And with our other seniors, give us a core of terrific leadership and ability."
Jovanovich was playing the best basketball of his collegiate career this winter before getting shutdown following surgery in mid-January. He appeared in the first 17 games, starting all of them, and was in the Top 20 of numerous Horizon League categories at that point in time.
He averaged a career-best 12.4 points and 6.1 rebounds per game (second on the team), connecting on 59.5 percent (91-of-153) of his field goals overall, as well as 71.0 percent (22-of-131) from the free throw line. He also added the three-pointer to his resume, hitting on 53.8 percent (7-of-13) of his attempts from deep and averaged 30.2 minutes a game.
Jovanovich posted 12 games of 10-or-more points, with a high of 21 at Akron in late November. He was the team's leading scorer in seven outings and led the team in rebounds on eight occasions, tying for the eventual team lead.
