Panthers Drop Midweek Matchup at Notre Dame

SOUTH BEND, Ind. – Milwaukee and Notre Dame met on the baseball diamond for the first time since the 2008 season, with the home team winning Wednesday's non-conference matchup.

Drew Berkland, Mark Quatrani, Jayce Lee, and Mason Barth all had three hits on the day for the Fighting Irish, as Notre Dame collected a season-best 22 hits. Berkland led the team with three RBIS and scored four runs out of the leadoff spot.

"We are in a tough stretch of non-conference games from a volume standpoint and Notre Dame really swung the bats with authority tonight on our arms," said head coach Shaun Wegner. "Credit them for living on the barrel tonight."

Milwaukee was limited to three hits against four Notre Dame pitchers. The Panthers' biggest hit came from Charlie Marion, who delivered a two-run double in the top of the fifth inning.

Dylan O'Connell and Christian Holmes each added a single and stolen bases. Holmes and Grant Ross scored on Marion's double.

Alex Vander Loop suffered the loss in his second start of the season. Cullen Riel, Riley Golden, and Braden Theis each pitched an inning of relief.

Aiden Zern got the start for Notre Dame and threw three shutout innings, while Evan Clark threw a hitless fourth and earned his first win of the year. After Kellen Klosterman allowed the two Milwaukee runs in the fifth, Dylan Singleton retired the six batters he faced to finish the seven-inning game.

Milwaukee fell by a 16-2 score and will continue its road trip this weekend, opening the month of May with a three-game series at UNLV. Friday's opener is set for 8:00 p.m. (CT).
