FRANKLIN, Wis. – Milwaukee baseball saw its eight-game winning streak come to an end on Sunday afternoon in the series finale against Wright State.
Â
Eight of nine Raiders recorded at least one hit, led by JP Peltier with three RBIs. Nate Manley, Braylen Blomquist, and Patrick Fultz each added multi-RBI performances.
Â
Chet Lax turned in a strong outing for Wright State, limiting the Panthers to two runs and seven hits while striking out five. Michael Bilo tossed two hitless innings in relief with one strikeout.
Â
"Chet is able to locate multiple pitches at any time. He works the corners and doesn't really give you a lot of stuff over the plate, and he did it again today," said head coach
Shaun Wegner "There's a reason he's got a low ERA; he's having a heck of a season. We couldn't get it done offensively."
Â
Bradyn Horn and
Joey Spence combined for four of Milwaukee's seven hits on the day, with
Christian Holmes collecting the lone RBI for the Panthers.
Â
Riley Peterson took the loss after allowing seven earned runs over 4 2/3 innings with three strikeouts.
Mason Weckler allowed two unearned runs, while
Cullen Riel tossed a scoreless seventh.
Braden Theis made his home debut to close out the pitching effort.
Â
"Riley was the victim a little bit of soft contact finding holes," added Wegner. "The biggest thing was he wasn't able slow down their running game, and they took advantage by getting extra bases. That adds up and puts a lot of pressure on you."
Â
Wright Stats led 9-0 midway through the fifth before Milwaukee got on the board in the bottom half of the inning. The Raiders answered with two more in the sixth to extend the lead to 11-1.
Â
Holmes doubled to drive in Milwaukee's second run in the seventh, but Peltier put the game out of reach with a two-run home run in the eighth. The Panthers were unable to respond, and the game ended early due to the run rule.
Â
"We have a lot of baseball coming up in a short amount of time," Wegner said. "A lot of guys are going to have to be ready when called upon, but that's what we signed up for playing Division I baseball."
Â
With the 13-2 loss, the Panthers finish their homestand at 6-1. Milwaukee heads back on the road for five straight games, beginning Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. at Northwestern.
