Panthers Post 12-Run Shutout to Take Series at Oakland

ROCHESTER, Mich. – For the second time this weekend Milwaukee's offense scored 12 runs in a game, as the Panthers blanked Oakland for its first shutout win of the season.

Bradyn Horn and Max Glusick hit home runs, and Dominic Kibler drove in three RBIs, as Milwaukee collected nine hits and took advantage of six drawn walks and six Golden Grizzlies errors to earn the series victory.

Dylan O'Connell tied a program record with four stolen bases, including a steal of home to open the scoring, as he finished the game with three runs scored.

Not to be outdone by the offense, Riley Peterson turned in another strong outing, tossing six shutout innings to earn his third win of the year. Camden Kuhnke pitched a 1-2-3 seventh to clinch the win.

"Today was a solid all-around game and was a great way to finish the first half of the conference season," said head coach Shaun Wegner. "We know that if we can solidify our defense and get pitching like we did, we can create pressure with our offense in multiple facets and push some runs across."

Milwaukee threatened right out of the gates with O'Connell reaching on a fielder's choice and then promptly stealing second and third. Kibler walked and later the duo completed a double steal with O'Connell scoring the first run of the game.

Peterson walked the first batter he faced but got a ground ball double play and a flyout to end the inning.

Milwaukee added to its lead in the fourth. O'Connell led off with a single, stole second, and scored on a hit by Kibler. Horn singled and Joey Spence walked to load the bases before a ball hit by Glusick resulted in two runs scoring on an Oakland miscue.

Ahead by four, the Panthers broke the game open with six runs in the fifth inning, highlighted by a two-run double by Kibler, a two-run home run by Horn, and another two-run homer by Glusick.

"Offensively, Kibler had some great at-bats that produced early runs, and O'Connell showed he can really test you on the bases," Wegner said. "It was great to see a couple of blasts by Horn and Glusick to cap it off."

Peterson retired the final five batters he faced to send the game to the seventh.

Milwaukee plated two more insurance runs in the top of the inning on ground balls by Christian Holmes and Cade Palkowski to make it 12-0.

Kuhnke took over in the bottom half and set down the Golden Grizzlies in order to lock down the win.

"Peterson and Kuhnke did exactly what we needed out of them today, and our defense supported the throughout," Wegner added.

Four pitchers took the mound for Oakland, with starting pitcher Ben Green taking his second loss of the season after allowing four runs over the first four innings.

Milwaukee will wrap up its weekend in Michigan with a visit to Central Michigan on Monday afternoon. First pitch set for 2:00 p.m. (CT).
