DeLAND, Fla. – The Milwaukee women's tennis team battled throughout in falling to Stetson, wrapping up its Florida trip Thursday morning from the Mandy Stoll Tennis Center.
 
The Panthers (5-10) and Hatters (13-5) were taking on each other for the first time in program history. The host team – the reigning two-time ASUN champs - continued its recent hot streak, extending its winning streak on the season to 10 consecutive matches with the decision.
 
"It was a tough loss, but the team battled hard all match," head coach Mark Goldin said. "We ended up with numerous close matches. Stetson is playing some really good tennis and continued that today. We are feeling good about the level that we are competing at going into conference."
 
The hosts also stayed red-hot at home, having now come out on top in 11 consecutive matches on their home court, a streak that dates all the way back to Feb. 22.
 
"We are getting healthier and getting better every day," Goldin said. "We look forward to getting back home and can't wait for next weekend."
 
The team put up a very strong start in doubles play, with Nadiia Konieva and Sara Simonova ahead in the tiebreaker, 5-3, at No. 1 when the doubles point was clinched. Elisa Rubio and Honoka Yamashita got off to a quick start at No. 3 but were unable to close out their 5-3 advantage.
 
In singles play, Elisa Rubio suffered a tough decision, falling 5-7, 6-4, 11-9 result at No. 5.
 
Up next, the Panthers resume conference action, opening April with a pair of home matches starting at 11 a.m. against Youngstown State April 3 from River Glen Elite.
