DAYTON – Behind a season-best 14 three-pointers, Wright State upended the Milwaukee women's basketball team, 77-55, on Wednesday evening.
Â
Lauren Scott led the way for the host Raiders with five makes from beyond the arc for a game-high 15 points. Rylee Sagester added four three-pointers and finished with 14 points. Claire Henson also scored 14, and Breezie Williams scored 12 as four of Wright State's five starters reached double figures. WSU shot a season-best 51.9 percent from three-point range.
Â
Milwaukee was not as successful from distance, finishing with five makes, including a pair by
Jorey Buwalda, who ended the game with 11 points.
Grace Lomen led the Panthers with 15 points, while
Cece McNair was effective in the paint with 12 points and six rebounds.
Â
The Panthers' lone lead of the game came 2:31 into the contest as Buwalda knocked down a three-pointer to give Milwaukee a 5-3 advantage. Scott answered with her second three-pointer of the game to put the home side back in front, 6-5.
Â
Payton Rechlicz tied the score at eight, but Wright State connected on three-pointers on three consecutive possessions to take a 25-14 lead after the first quarter.
Â
The Raiders led by as many as 20 in the first half and took a 42-23 lead into halftime.
Â
The Panthers caught fire in the third quarter, outscoring Wright State 19-12 to cut the deficit down to 12 heading into the final period.
Â
Milwaukee was unable to maintain the momentum in the fourth, however, as Wright State regained control and pulled away for the 22-point victory.
Â
Rebounds were nearly even, with Wright State holding a 31-29 edge. Points off turnovers were once again costly for the Panthers. The Raiders scored 19 points off 14 Milwaukee turnovers, while the Panthers managed just five points on 12 Wright State giveaways.
Â
Milwaukee will be on the road for the final time this regular season when the Panthers visit the Kress Center to take on Green Bay on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
