MILWAUKEE – Grace Lomen scored a career-high 27 points including an impressive 7-of-8 performance from three-point range, but it was not enough as Milwaukee fell to visiting Oakland, 82-71, on Saturday afternoon.
Â
Lomen's seven three-pointers were the most by a Panther since the 2019-20 season, as she became just the ninth player in program history to connect on at least seven from beyond the arc in a single game. Her 7-for-8 effort (.875) ranks fifth on the program's single-game list for three-point percentage with a minimum of five makes.
Â
Countering Lomen's performance were Makenzie Luehring and Filippa Goula for Oakland, who finished the game with 24 and 21 points, respectively. Luehring filled the stat sheet for the Golden Grizzlies, ending the game with six rebounds, five assists, a pair of steals, and a block.
Â
Both teams shot efficiently, with Oakland finishing at 50.9 percent from the field and Milwaukee close behind at 50.0 percent. The Grizzlies made 28 field goals, including 12 from long range, while the Panthers also connected on 12 three-pointers as part of their 24 made baskets overall.
Â
Oakland established a strong inside presence, finishing with 32 points in the paint, while Milwaukee totaled 20. The Golden Grizzlies also held a 31-24 advantage on the boards.
Â
The first quarter was closely contested with three ties and four lead changes, as Lomen opened the scoring with a three-pointer. A late layup by Oakland kept it a one-possession game, with Milwaukee holding a 16-13 edge at the end of the period.
Â
Milwaukee extended its lead to 21-17 following a pair of free throws by
Micayla Silas in the second quarter. However, Oakland capitalized on seven Panther turnovers over the final seven minutes of the half, closing on a 23-7 run to take a 41-28 advantage into the break.
Â
Oakland led by as many as 23 points in fourth quarter before Milwaukee mounted a push, using a 16-3 run to cut the deficit to nine. A pair of free throws in the closing seconds sealed the 11-point victory for Grizzlies.
Â
Silas finished with seven points for Milwaukee, while
Kendall Barnes scored eight and tied for the team lead with five rebounds.
Madison Fitzgibbon also pulled down five rebounds and scored seven points.
Â
Milwaukee returns to the road for a quick trip to Cleveland State on Wednesday evening tipping off at 6:00 p.m. (CT) at the Wolstein Center. The Panthers will then return home to host Wright State on Saturday at 2:00 p.m.
