DAYTON, Ohio – Wright State scored two runs in the first inning and proved to be all the Raiders needed as they shutout Milwaukee by a 10-0 score on Sunday afternoon.
Gus Gregory drove in three runs with a pair of extra-base hits, ending the game with a double and a triple. Braylen Blomquist and Cam Gilkerson had two RBIs apiece.
The Raiders took advantage of 10 walks by Milwaukee pitching, while collecting eight hits offensively.
"We got beat by a better team all around today in every facet," said head coach
Shaun Wegner. "We couldn't get ahead on the mound and gave up far too many free passes. Once they got on, they were able to steal nine bases due to our inability to hold runners or catch and throw from behind the dish."
The Panthers were held to one hit, a single by
Camden Kuhnke, who returned to the lineup for the first time since the end of February.
"Offensively, we didn't do a great job of sticking to the scouting report … credit to Garrett Peters, he frustrated us," added Wegner. "We have to be better if we want to find a different result."
Peters threw five innings for Wright State and walked two while striking out six. Malachi Paplanus retired the six batters he faced to finish off the game.
"We will be back here in just under a month, so we need to take care of the schedule ahead of us before we return," Wegner noted. "It starts Tuesday with a unique opportunity with our very first 'School Day' alongside TMJ4 and their weather team."
Milwaukee will return home for the next five games including an 11:00 a.m. matchup against Northern Illinois on Tuesday morning for its first-ever 'School Day' game.
