DETROIT – Host Detroit Mercy used a 14-0 run late in the fourth quarter of the Barbasol Horizon League Championship First Round game to pull away late to knock off the Milwaukee women's basketball team on Tuesday evening by a 73-62 score.

Myonna Hooper and Makayla Jackson each had six points during the team's late rally to help propel the Titans into the quarterfinal round on Thursday at Cleveland State. Jackson finished the game with a team-best 25 points, while Hooper ended the night with 15.

Kamy Peppler and
Kacee Baumhower combined for eight of Milwaukee's 11 three-point makes on the game, with Peppler finishing the evening with a team-best 20 points and Baumhower scoring 15.

It was a close game throughout as the two sides were deadlocked after the opening half of play at 29 points apiece. Milwaukee took its largest lead of the game with under three minutes left in the half at eight, before an 8-0 run by the Titans leveled the score at the halftime break.

Detroit Mercy built up as large as a seven-point lead in the third quarter and eventually took a 53-47 advantage into the fourth. Hooper scored nine points and Jackson scored eight points in a third quarter that saw the Titans shoot 71.4 percent from the field.

In the fourth the Panthers got within one and eventually took the lead midway through as
Jorey Buwalda scored a layup and connected on the ensuing free throw to make it a two-point MKE lead.

Turnovers and missed chances for the Panthers led to the 14-0 run by the Titans, leading to the largest lead for either side with a 71-59 advantage. Baumhower hit a three late to get Milwaukee back within nine with 1:12 to go, but it was too much to overcome as Milwaukee fell to its hosts.

Rebounding and points in the paint were key factors for the Titans in the wind as Detroit Mercy held the rebounding advantage at 42-29, while points in the paint were 38-20 in front of Milwaukee.

Buwalda finished the game with nine points, while
Anna Lutz finished her career with a nine-point, seven-rebound effort.
Jada Donaldson scored five and was tied with Peppler for the team lead in steals at three. Peppler and Lutz each had four assists to lead the team.

Milwaukee wraps up its season with an 8-24 record and a 5-15 mark in Horizon League games. Detroit improves to 15-14 overall and will visit Cleveland State on Thursday evening at 4:30 p.m. (CT).
