HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – Milwaukee's offense stayed hot scoring 13 runs for the second-straight game in a 13-3 victory over the Northern Kentucky Norse on Friday afternoon.
Â
All nine players in Milwaukee's lineup collected hits on the day, while
Thomas Otto led the Panthers with a career-best six RBIs on a bases-loaded walk and a pair of multi-run homers.
Gabe Roessler,
Caden Headlee, and
Justin Hausser joined Otto with multiple hits on the day.
Â
"I was really happy with our team today, our energy was great from the start," said head coach
Shaun Wegner after the game. "We really did a terrific job extending with two outs and we lit up the scoreboard with two-out RBIs. That is a great thing to see and often leads to getting the outcome you are looking for."
Gavin Theis held the Norse offense to just five hits and three runs over his 4 2/3 innings with three strikeouts.
Logan Snow did not allow a hit over the final 2 1/3 innings.
"Gavin was really good early on and our offense responded wih some crooked numbers early and often," added Wegner. "I thought Gavind faltered a little after some of those long waits, but ultimately I was really happy with what he gave us ... and Snow did a really nice job finishing that game off and ending it early in seven innings."
Â
The Panthers scored three runs in the top of the second innings with all the damage coming with two down. Hausser and Lethert singled before
Q Phillips and Otto walked to bring home the first Milwaukee run. Roessler hit a ball to third that was booted, allowing Lethert and Phillips to cross the plate.
Â
Charlie Marion and Headlee led off the third with consecutive doubles before Hausser collected an RBI with a base hit. Three batters later, Otto hit his first home run of the afternoon to make it 7-0 in favor of the Panthers.
Â
Tyler Bickers led off the fourth with a single, while Headlee doubled to plate the eighth run of the game. Otto was up later in the inning against a new Norse pitcher and drilled his second homer of the afternoon to make it 12-0. Roessler followed with a solo homer to make it 13 unanswered.
"A career day for Otto really highlighted today," Wegner concluded. "I was really happy to see him leave the park twice and collect six RBIs."
Â
A pair of walks and a hit batter got NKU's offense kickstarted in the bottom of the fourth as the Norse scored three runs off of Theis before he stranded the bases full on a popup.
Â
Theis and Snow combined to keep the home side off the scoreboard for the remainder of the game, including a game-inning double play turned by the Panther defense.
Â
Milwaukee and Northern Kentucky will play game two of the three-game series on Saturday afternoon with first pitch set for 12:00 p.m. (CT) at the Bill Aker Baseball Complex.
