LAKE GENEVA, Wis. – The Milwaukee women's tennis team was in control from start to finish, taking care of business against Whitewater with a 7-0 victory Sunday afternoon at Lake Geneva Tennis.
 
The Panthers (6-6) put together a strong effort against the Warhawks (7-2), a very successful NCAA DIII program which has won the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference title the past 18 consecutive seasons.
 
"We had a few members of the team out today with injury, but we kept that 'next-up' mentality and stayed ready and played tough," head coach Mark Goldin said. "It was great to see Giorgia Cavestro get her first singles victory of the season and Elisa (Rubio) and Emilia (Durska) also had a strong day, winning both in singles and doubles. Now it's time to rest up and get healthy for next weekend."
 
The Panthers took care of doubles in just over 30 minutes, getting 6-2 decisions from both Emilia Durska and Giorgia Cavestro at No. 2 as well as Elisa Rubio and Sara Simonova at No. 3 to grab the doubles point.
 
Laure Razet got things started in singles, making it 2-0 MKE with a 6-1, 6-0 defeat of Molly Asfeld at No. 2. Rubio was close behind, posting a 6-2, 6-0 victory at No. 4 over Alex Repplier.
 
The wins kept coming, with Honoka Yamashita (No. 5) taking down Sarah Ferguson 6-2, 6-1, to make it 4-0 and Nikola Nikolajeva following close behind with a 6-2, 6-0 defeat of Gracie Ha at the top of the lineup.
 
Durska needed a first-set tiebreak before cruising in the second over Abigail Weaver 7-6 (7-1), 6-1 and Cavestro topped it off with a thrilling 6-4, 2-6, 10-2 decision over Crystina Lee to complete the sweep.

Up next, the Panthers have just one match on the schedule next week, hosting Northern Iowa Saturday. Start time is set for 11:30 a.m.
