ORLANDO, Fla. – The Milwaukee women's tennis team dropped its match to Morgan State, falling by a 4-0 score Wednesday morning at the United States Tennis Association Center.
 
The Panthers (6-9) played much better against the Bears (4-7) than the final score indicated, as doubles was very competitive and close throughout, while all three singles matches that were remaining after the teams played to clinch were tied at a set apiece.
 
"The team fought through injury once again to compete but fell short," head coach Mark Goldin said. "We have one more match tomorrow before conference season starts and I am feeling very confident in the level we are playing going into conference. The key is a good week of rest after this next match to get everyone healthy for conference play."
 
The team of Nadiia Konieva and Sara Simonova got things off on the right foot for the Panthers, earning a 6-3 win over the team of Aleksandra Evdokimov/Marta Serra Carles at No. 1. Milwaukee had a good chance to claim the doubles point but was unable to close out either of the other two matches.
 
In singles play, the Bears won early to force many of the matches to remain unfinished. Konieva was tied at 1-1 (4-6, 6-2) at No. 1 singles, as was Honoka Yamashita (1-6, 6-1) at No. 6 singles. Razet was also close to even and forcing a third set.
 
Up next, the team wraps up the Florida trip with a match against New Jersey Institute of Technology, set for Thursday at 5 p.m. CT.
