Panthers Stifle Ripon, 72–43, With Balanced Scoring and Stout Defense

MILWAUKEE – Four players scored in double figures for the Panthers in a convincing 29-point win over Ripon on Sunday afternoon, 72-43.

Payton Rechlicz led Milwaukee with 14 points, while Jorey Buwalda, Grace Lomen, and Izzy Pugh each scored 10 points. Buwalda secured her fourth double-double of the season, tying her career high with 17 rebounds.

Milwaukee connected on another 12 three-pointers, as Rechlicz made four, Madison Fitzgibbon knocked down three, and Grace Lomen added a pair.

"We've been shooting the ball really well in practice leading up to the past few games," commented head coach Kyle Rechlicz. "When you have different people stepping up each game, tonight was Payton and Madison from the three-point line, it's huge for us. We're able to get different people in the mix, and that makes teams have a tough time defending us as you go into conference play."

Buwalda also had a strong presence on the defensive end, as she and Pugh tied for a team-high three blocks. The Panthers finished the game with 11 blocks, tying the program record and the Klotsche Center record for blocks in a single contest.

In addition to blocking shots, Milwaukee held Ripon to just 24.3 percent from the field and 11.1 percent from three, both season-best defensive efforts by the Panthers.

"We've really been focused on getting our zone defense a little bit better," added Rechlicz. "This was a game for us to see some rotations, and it was nice to see our team take what we worked on in practice this last week and apply it in the game."

The Red Hawks scored the first five points of the game before Lomen ignited the Panther offense with a three-pointer. Milwaukee responded by scoring the next five baskets, all from beyond the arc, to take an 18-5 lead.

The Panthers led by as many as 22 in the second quarter following a Micayla Silas layup and took a 39-22 lead into halftime.

Milwaukee led wire-to-wire in the second half and added on late, building its largest lead of the game to close out the 72-43 victory.

Fitzgibbon finished the game with nine points, while Silas added three. Tierney Madigan pulled down five rebounds, while Buwalda, Madigan, and Sophia Rampulla each dished out a team-high three assists.

Milwaukee will wrap-up non-league play on Saturday afternoon, hosting Wisconsin Lutheran at the Klotsche Center with a 12:00 p.m. tipoff.
