MILWAUKEE – Three members of the Milwaukee men's soccer team were honored when the Horizon League office announced the all-league teams and specialty award winners Friday afternoon.
Bienvenu Djunga and
Angel Gongora were named Second-Team All-Horizon League, while
Ryan Berghauer picked up a spot on the Third-Team All-Horizon League Team. Gongora was also a finalist for the league's "Sportsmanship Award". The awards are all career-firsts for each student-athlete.
Djunga caps his Milwaukee career in style, earning second-team status after being a key piece of the Milwaukee offensive attack over his career. This fall, the team captain stands second in the Horizon League in total shots attempts (44) and third in shots on goal (18). In addition to his seven points (3G/1A) he has scored, his ability to attack the goal has resulted in PK attempts for the Panthers on a handful of occasions. He also came up big in the season finale Tuesday, with his 83
rd-minute goal earning the draw and essentially securing a first-round home contest for the program in the postseason.
Gongora has capped his Milwaukee career with his best season, as the team captain has controlled the midfield with his defensive prowess and also come through with a career-best and team-leading 13 points (5G/3A), with his goal total ranking tied for fifth in the league and his overall point total tied for fourth. He currently leads the NCAA with his penalty-kick efforts, one of just three players across the country to be a perfect 5-for-5 from the spot.
Berghauer, named to the Horizon League All-Academic Team earlier this week, has played a big role on the field from day one on campus. As a freshman in 2024 he appeared in 18 of 19 games in the backline of the defense, helping the Panthers to the lowest team goals-against average in the league. This season, he has started all 18 games on defense, adding four points on a pair of goals on the offensive side of the field while always a threat with headers on corner kicks.
