DAYTON, Ohio – The Milwaukee volleyball team dropped its opening match of the weekend at Wright State on Friday evening, falling in straight sets at the CJ McGlin Gymnasium.

Reilly Zegunis led Wright State with a team-high 13 kills, a .409 hitting percentage, and six blocks. Mya Ayro and Katie Sowko each added 11 kills each, with Sowko also recording a team-best 14 digs for a double-double. Ella Gaona contributed a staggering six service aces in the win for the Raiders.

Wright State held a 13-0 advantage in service aces as a team and had 10 more kills than Milwaukee. The Raiders finished the match with a .260 team hitting percentage and held a narrow 44-37 edge in digs.

The Panthers struggled early, dropping the opening set 25-10, but showed more fight in the latter two frames. Milwaukee fell 25-17 in the second and stayed within reach in the third before ultimately falling 25-21.

"We had lots of opportunities to challenge a strong Wright State team this evening at the net, and we came up short," said head coach
Susie Johnson. "We improved as the match went on, but we have to make our adjustments as a team quicker in order to get the results we want."

Bella Lipski led Milwaukee with nine kills, while
Josie Noble had six kills and a team-best .357 hitting percentage.
Milica Tomic handed out 14 assists, and
Josie Johnson added 12.

Defensively,
Kara Erdmann paced the Panthers with 11 digs. Milwaukee finished with just three blocks, with Lipski tallying two to lead the team.

The Panthers and Raiders will square off again on Saturday afternoon, with first serve set for 1:00 p.m. (CT).
