Panthers Tripped Up in Road Bout at Northwestern

EVANSTON, Ill. – Milwaukee took an early lead against host Northwestern, but a grand slam and two-run home run by Owen McElfatrick proved to be the difference in the game as the Wildcats won the midweek matchup by a 9-3 score.

The Panthers had a two-run double off the bat of Ben Buehring in the top of the second to open the scoring, and after Northwestern tied the score at two, Zach Lane went deep to left centerfield to put Milwaukee up 3-2.

Northwestern tied the score off starter Tyler Deleskiewicz in the bottom of the fourth before scoring the final six runs of the game off Cole Spitzer, who took the loss.

"Deleskiewicz showed an ability to make some pitches in spots but ultimately a few defensive miscues inflated the scoreboard on us," said head coach Shaun Wegner after the game.

Deleskiewicz struck out three Wildcats over his five innings of work, while Spitzer struck out a pair.

Lane was involved in the offense in the top of the second as he drew a four-pitch walk before Sean Tillmon doubled to put a pair in scoring position with one down. Buehring followed with a two-run double for his first RBIs as a Panther.

Milwaukee also got hits from Gabe Roessler, Carson Hansen, and Andrew Chapman offensively.

"Offensively we didn't provide enough traffic on the basepaths," Wegner concluded as Milwaukee left just three runners on base and drew one walk as a team.

Milwaukee will head to Oakland this weekend beginning with the opening game of the three-game series with the Golden Grizzlies on Friday afternoon at 2:30 p.m. (CT) on the Oakland Baseball Field.
