Late Rally for Oakland Dooms Panthers in Saturday Matchup

ROCHESTER, Mich. – Milwaukee's Zach Lane erased an early deficit with a three-run home run in the sixth inning, but the Oakland Golden Grizzlies scored five runs in the eighth to win the second game of a three-game series by an 8-3 score.

The Panthers were only able to muster five hits on the day including two by Lane, while Justin Hausser, Tyler Bickers, and Sean Tillmon all had singles on the game.

Adrian Montilva got the start for the Panthers and allowed just two earned runs, three overall, in his five innings of work as he struck out five Golden Grizzlies. Logan Snow pitched the final three innings and struck out a pair, but suffered the loss as he allowed the five-run Oakland eighth inning.

"Montilva settled in after giving up a couple of runs early on," said head coach Shaun Wegner of his starter. "He was really in control his final three innings. Snow came in and held us there to give us a chance to take the lead after Lane's three-run home run."

Oakland broke the 3-3 score as they recorded five runs on five hits, as five different Golden Grizzlies drove in runs in the inning. The rally started with a one-out walk and saw the home team connect on three extra-base hits in the frame.

"The eighth inning did us in … we got a leadoff runner on, and the opportunity ended with poor team offense," Wegner added. "They got a runner on with a freebie and then a stolen base to give them a scoring opportunity and they capitalized."

Ben Clark had three hits on the day for Oakland, while Reggie Bussey and Lucas Day each had two-hit days. Clark and Brandon Nigh scored two runs apiece for the balanced offense that had seven different players record RBIs.

Tanner Ware got the start for the Grizzlies and allowed Lane's three-run home run in the sixth. Brandon Decker pitched the next two without allowing a base runner, while Aaron Evers added to the bullpen's success by facing the minimum in the ninth. Decker earned his sixth win of the season as the beneficiary of the five-run eighth.

"If we want to win tomorrow, we have to play clean baseball all around … but do a far better job of team offense and searching for big hits," Wegner concluded.

Milwaukee will try to salvage the last game in the series on Sunday afternoon, when the two sides meet for the final time in the regular season. First pitch is set for 12:00 p.m. (CT) on the Oakland Baseball Field.
